vintage books...

I have recently found a love for vintage children's books.  I guess I've always loved them, it's just that when I loved them as a child, they weren't vintage yet!  I can't get enough of the vibrant colors and illustrations.  There's also something about knowing that these were read to little ones as bedtime stories, or to learn about the world for the first time.  And the smell!  who doesn't love the smell of old books?!  Takes me back to the library as a child, and I LOVED the library!

Pictured above is my collection so far.

Bottom left: one of my favorite finds, From Snails to Whales by Laura Nelson Baker from 1970.  I love the simple yellow cover with the snail illustration by John Pimlott.  (I'm sure this inspired the snail pillow from the last post.)

Bottom Center and Right:  Another favorite, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne.  I'm not sure of the publication date on this one, but I LOVE the cover design and inside publisher illustrations.  There are also some great line drawings by Henry C. Pitz throughout the pages.  I've never read this classic, so I might just have to curl up with this one sometime!

snowy day...

It is a snowy/rainy/icy day here in KC.  We have a pot of chili on the stove and the tournament on tv.  (we are very sad that our jayhawks lost last night.)  I've been working on this little pillow most of the day.  Spring is calling my name, can you tell?

I had some scrap fabric from work, and decided to put it to use.  I've had a thing for snails lately, so I hand appliqued this little guy.  

I have to say, I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out, and it's so soft!

tiny tidings...

Here's the latest addition to my etsy shop.  I'm calling them Tiny Tidings.  Each card measures 2"x 1.5".  I think they would be just precious for little love notes, don't you?

late last night we put our newest creations in the store.  these were truly a collaborative effort between jon and i, from conception all the way through to the descriptions in the store.  it made for great fun this weekend!  

and, this morning, our Audrey Hepburn Silhouette Chalkboard was featured on Saima Says Style, a fabulous style blog out of London!  We are very excited to have such a warm reception of our latest creations!

the last few days i've been working on personalizing these gifts for my stepdad's new grandson that is on the way.  i'm handing them off to my mom this afternoon for the baby shower tomorrow.  i matched the bedding from their nursery and added police vehicles since the dad is an officer.  i just love how the bank turned out.  super cute!

visitor...

last saturday we had a little visitor.  this sweet little ladybug was hanging out on our kitchen countertop when we got home.  she made me happy.  we hung out in the office for a bit before i let her go outside.

today is a beautiful day here in kansas city.  spring is in the air!  and...i made my first sale on etsy!  how fitting that it would be this.
