hawaii on my mind...

Two years ago today we left for our honeymoon.  10 days in paradise.
Hawaii is in my blood now.  I miss it.
When asked to picture my happy place,
I see Poipu Beach on Kauai.
Can't wait to go back to feel the ocean breeze,
smell the plumeria blossoms and drink a lava flow.
Someday.

Where's your happy place?

the big news...

Well, it's official-official, so I can finally spill the beans...
WE'RE MOVING!!!
Some of you know that we've been trying to sell our house for the last 21 months, and it has finally happened!  We signed the contract to sell on Easter Sunday, and found our new home the next weekend.  Now that inspections are done, and we're past the point of no return, it can be public knowledge!  We are so very excited to be moving back home to
the Kansas side.  Although we've been in the same metro area, it really seems like a world of difference.  We like to refer to it as "the bubble".  Jon and I both grew up in "the bubble" of Johnson County, KS, and quite frankly, we miss it.
{for those of you who aren't from KC, Johnson County is known as the "snotty, rich, spoiled, etc." part of town.  Now, there are definitely some wealthy neighborhoods, but all in all it's really just the quintessential all-american area. It's the kind of place you'd want to raise your kids.   But then again, I was born and raised there, so I may be a little biased.  All we know, is that we'll take a JOCO snob any day over some of the things we've encountered on the other side of the state line.}
Anyway, as we move closer to starting a family, we feel that "the bubble" is where we want to be.  We found a great house, in a great neighborhood, and thanks to the slow real estate market, we think we got a pretty great deal too!  We couldn't be happier.
We will be moving on May 21st, three weeks from today!
Let the packing begin!
I will try to keep up on posts as much as possible over the next few weeks, but they may be a little sporadic.

blessed...

I am feeling blessed.
For my husband.  He is the best partner I could ask for and truly the love of my life.
For my family.  They give me strength and support every day.
For my friends.  Although I don't see them as much as I'd like, they are there for me always, inspiring me to be all that I can be.
For my kitties.  Constant sources of unconditional love.
For a God that loves me, and has bestowed these blessings upon me.

I am so thankful.

open windows & smoothie breakfasts...

isn't sleeping with the windows open in the spring just the best?  somehow i always feel more refreshed and rested with the fresh spring air in the house.
i'm enjoying a delicious smoothie while i spend some time on the computer this morning.
here's my favorite recipe:

1 cup plain yogurt
2 Tbsp. quick oats
1 Tbsp. orange juice concentrate
1/2 banana
1/2 cup berries
1/2 cup milk
2 Tbsp. honey
1 cup ice

blend all ingredients until smooth!

it is very easy, and can be tweaked for what you have in your refrigerator.  you can use whatever fruit you like.  mmmmm. good.
{tip:  you can prepare the blender pitcher with all ingredients except ice the night before.  just store in the fridge until morning, add ice, blend and it's ready in just a couple of minutes!!}

hope you all have a splendid weekend!

library of congress...

thanks to still dottie for pointing me toward the fabulous library of congress shop today!  I am in love with so many of these prints, I'm not sure where I would begin.  Hundreds of prints starting at $28 for an 8x10.  I can't get enough of the vintage charm of these images.
The shop also has many other wonderful things that I have yet to explore, like stationery, jewelry, office accessories, and much more!  Who knew?!

fridays are good...

i have been extremely preoccupied this week due to those exciting happenings i mentioned in my last post...
{don't worry, i'll clue you in soon}.
this weekend is looking to be very busy once again.
i hate that it seems i am neglecting my blog, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.  in the meantime, take a look at these adorable clothespin dolls by hope meeks of going sew crazy.
hope was the guest blogger on just something i made today.  there's even a tutorial on how to make your own!  so adorable!  i could see them being made for each of one's bridesmaids,
or as a party favor for a girls' night.
wish i had time to do something creative, but that time will come, very soon...

bobble head...

a couple months ago i picked up this little gem at a free "yard sale" (office clean-out) at work.  i think he is so fun, and just decided to figure out where he came from.
he has "copyright 2006 HARDACRE" stamped on his feet.   apparently he's the "Yes Sir" Bobble-Head Paper Clip Holder by Amy Hardacre
available here.
also available in "Yes Ma'am", "Lion", and "Bird".
i just love how he brightens up my desk.

saturday....

Today I'm going to a bridal shower and giving this...

Gift card boxes like this one are available in my shop.

Last night I made some new business cards to promote my shop & blog...
I couldn't do the stitching on a large run, but since I was doing just 12, I decided to add that special touch!  I'm looking for new ways to promote my shop.  Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

Also, found out yesterday that this lovely lady is having a boy!  So excited!

Have a great saturday everyone!

Dirk the Sockey comes to life....

A year or so ago I donated one of my sockeys, Dirk the dog, to the company I work for to be used as the "Green Mascot".  He's passed around to different departments as a challenge to make our company more eco-friendly.
This last month, the department he was with took it to a whole new level and brought him to life in a life sized costume...it was hilarious!  "Dirk" gave the presentation at our Associate Recognition day event yesterday.  It was strange and wonderful at the same time to see one of my creations inspire this!
