Hi guys! Seems like it's been forever. I trust you all had a fab weekend?
Oh, yes, I had a wonderful weekend! Thanks for asking!
I'll have to tell you about it a little at a time.
For starters, Saturday was rainy and cold. {Well, actually, the weekend started with a Friday afternoon off for me, spent packaging orders and relaxing.} Anyway, Saturday, we ventured out for our date to the Nelson. But first, we went to Midtown to D'Bronx. I've been hearing about their pizza my entire life, but had never been there! It was pretty dang good. Although, the best part was reading all the stuff people write on the walls, and of course, adding our own mark.
We were careful not to stuff ourselves beyond comfort, and left packing enough pizza for at least 3 more meals. We got to the Nelson and even realized we could park across the street for free. {As opposed to in the garage for $5.} That made the whole museum trip free since there's no admission fee. We like free stuff!
The exhibit on Naismith's Original Rules of Basketball was quite anticlimactic. It was literally two pieces of paper typed. I guess I don't know what I was expecting. I thought there'd be photos, or drawings or something to go with it. Nope, two pieces of paper, folks! Being the good {Jayhawk} basketball fans we are, we read through the rules. I was quite impressed that the original rules included goal tending! I would have thought that had come later, but nope. Mr. Naismith saw that coming!
Since it took all of five minutes to see the rules, we had a few hours to browse through the rest of the museum. It's been a long time since I've been in the old building. {The last time I was there, I was just in the Block Building.} They've moved stuff around from how I remember it, but it's still fantastic. The building itself is magnificent, and full of marble, granite and limestone. It is solid. The exhibits range from ancient to modern. {There is even a real mummy on display.}
We only got through maybe half of the exhibits before Jon pooped out on me. But, he's promised to take me back. {I think he enjoyed it!}
I haven't been to many art museums, but the Nelson can certainly hold it's own with the one's I've seen. It's really quite impressive. If you're ever in KC, you should definitely check it out!
More weekends shenanigans to come....
What's your favorite style of pizza? I do enjoy New York style, but I think St. Louis is my absolute fave. Love me some thin crust!

A pretty bicycle picture and random thoughts from the week....
I didn't realize until this week that you could set your preferences in blogger to allow for email replies. Duh. Seriously, where have I been!?
There are lots of times I tweet something, and then realize that my real life friends are probably laughing at me. {Like when I tweeted the Biggest Loser finalists to tell them they look awesome. What!? They do!}
What is up with yogurt cups having lids? I mean, does anyone ever actually eat half and then put the lid back on? Maybe kids do. Do they? Seems like a lot of wasted material to me.
Every time I clean house or do laundry I start singing this song. I have no explanation for this whatsoever, but it has been happening for years. Every time.
I want to do a blog makeover. But I can't make over my own blog 'til I do my bestie's. She's been waiting patiently for me to make hers over, and I'm a horrible, horrible friend who hasn't done it yet. I suck.
Okay, I'm about to go all snobby: It drives me nuts when so called "designers" don't fix the kerning on their script fonts. If you don't know what that means, you should not be claiming to be a graphic designer.
**********************************************************************************************************************************
Hooray for long weekends! I'm especially excited because today is the first Friday of summer hours at my workplace. During the summer, we're working 9 hour days Monday thru Thursday and half days on Fridays. I am pumped! I love summer, and I love long weekends. And, this weekend is extra long with the holiday! Whoo hoo!
Plans for the weekend include:
- packaging/shipping orders
- cleaning {only cause we're having company on Sunday!}
- a trip to the Nelson-Atkins. They have Naismith's original rules of basketball on display, and I just love that place and haven't been forever, so I've requested a date.
- finally finishing the office. I haven't mentioned this in a while, cause let's face it, it's embarrassing how long it's taking us to wrap up this room. It's so close!
- a barbeque with our dear friends
- oh, and wouldn't a bike ride be lovely worked in there somewhere!?
What are your plans for the weekend?
In case you missed it this week:
Some words to live by.
Vintage shopping on Etsy.
Peaceful photos.

Found it!!!
After some intense Google searching, I found the mystery show I mentioned earlier! I'm so excited, I can't hardly stand it! It was called "The Book Bird with John Robbins". Now that I found it, I remember the opening claymation as well. And, this episode was one of my favorites cause it's the one where he draws from "Little House in the Big Woods", which was also one of my faves!
See guys, I'm not crazy afterall! :)
You seriously have no idea how long I've been trying to figure that out. Years, people! Years!
See you tomorrow with some randomness...I've got some doosies for you this week.

A few fun finds...{Vintage Edition}
This shop's having an Anniversary Sale right now! I've been weighing alot of food lately, since I've been counting calories, and this would add some whimsy to a tedious task. Much cuter than my boring plastic scale!
I love this nautical print, and the 1940's shape. Wouldn't it make a magical 4th of July outfit? I think so.
Now, these are just fun! How lovely that faucet knobs come in so many pretty shapes and sizes. These would make a darling coat rack in a mudroom, or I even love them grouped together just like above and framed as a fun piece of art!
I am linking up to Yes, Teacher's Tickle me Tuesday post. Hop over and check out the other great finds!
Are you into vintage?
I love vintage and antique pieces, but have never bought any off Etsy. I do most my vintage shopping at thrift and antique stores. I think 1/2 the fun is digging through stuff and treasure hunting. That being said, after looking through Etsy for this post, I could do some serious damage on Etsy! So many fabulous vintage items!

Words to live by...
Life has been busy lately. Things seem to be speeding up all around me; work is crazy, Etsy sales are up and running again {yay!}, and Jon and I are motivated and chasing our dreams like never before. It's truley awesome, and we are blessed, but sometimes it is hard to keep up the pace. I'm not gonna lie, I'm really looking forward to a long weekend next week!
I find myself on auto pilot sometimes, and that's not a feeling I like. I have a board on Pinterest where I post all the little motivational {or sometimes funny} quotes or sayings that I find here and there. Every once in a while I take some time to read through them. They always make me want to cry. Not in a bad way, but in a ohmygoshi'msoblessedican'thardlystandit kind of way. You know?
Well, anyway, I thought I'd share some of my faves with you today. {Clicking on the image will take you to the original source.} If you all like it, I'll share more from time to time.
Does anyone else feel like life is going by way too fast lately? What do you do to slow down and enjoy it?
Also, I want to send out my thoughts and prayers to those in Joplin, MO. Words cannot even describe.

A pretty bicycle picture and random thoughts from the week....
How come when an English speaker is singing, you can't tell what their accent is? Like, you can't tell if they're Brittish, or Australian, or I guess American. {They all sound American to me when they sing. Any Brits or Aussies who can confirm if you think they all sound like you?}
It just occurred to me that as one ages, the periods of your life must become clearer. Sounds simple enough. I guess I'm starting to see how life goes through cycles of trying times and great times. Times that are really hard, and times that are really joyful. I'm learning that age really does help put all that in perspective.
Speaking of time, does anyone else have a time line in their head? I have a distinct vision of a time line with numbers and all, starting in the 1980, cause that's the year I was born. The entirety of the universe goes backward or forward from this point. {a little narcissistic, huh?} There are mental images that are associated along the way, and it kinda jumps around on a map, too. It's the way I've viewed time and history in my head my whole life. Am I the only one who thinks in weird ways like this? This is really hard to explain, and I probably sound like a crazy person, but what's new?
How come the stuff that sells at garage sales is never the stuff you think will sell?
Sometimes I get worried that I'm actually speaking my thoughts out loud instead of just thinking them. I have moments where I'm like, "I didn't just say that out loud, did I?" Anyone else?

It's Friday, guys! How exciting is that!? There is a wonderful thunderstorm happening right now...wish I could be at home with a book and a cup of coffee.
Not much on the agenda this weekend. Painting orders and going to a friend's jewelry party....that's about it, and I'm so glad! I need some down time, folks.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Do you enjoy going to "parties"? {You know, like jewelry parties, pampered chef, etc.} I'm not usually a fan, but I guess I'm trying to be a good friend. It'll be fun! Right? ;)

For our mamas {How to Make a Terrarium}....

I know, Mother's Day was almost two weeks ago, but I still wanted to share what we made for our mamas! Inspiration hit me, and I just knew we had to make terrariums for them! They sure turned out cute, if I do say so myself. Jon and I had a blast picking out the succulents and assembling them. They made the perfect, unique and pretty gift for our sweet moms.
How to make a terrarium, {based on my research}:
1. Pick out your container {vase, jar, bowl, etc.} and plants. {succulents work well}
2. Start with a layer of small pebbles.
3. Layer of Spanish Moss.
4. Potting soil.
5. Plants.
6. More small and decorative pebbles. {we also added a little frog and turtle}
The best part about these, is they need very little water, so they're easy to keep alive.
Don't you think they're fun, and summery? I kinda want one for myself!
To see my inspiration, and other oh-so-pretty examples visit my terrarium pinboard!

Getting to know you...
It's Getting to know you Wednesday! It's fairly new around here, but here's how it works: I post some fun/random questions for you all in a nice Google form. You also have a chance to ask me whatever you like. I'll answer your questions in upcoming posts.
This will not only help me get to know you all, but it'll help me give you more of what you like here on this little blog.
{just so you know, I'll never sell any of the info you provide or use it for anything annoying...I promise! It's purely for me to get to know you!}

A few fun finds...
Today, I'm all about accessories. I hope you enjoy!
I wish there was a pic of this being used as a sweater chain as suggested. How seriously freakin' cute would that be!?
I absolutely love this shop! Everything in their line has that signature style. Cool, unique and a little bit creepy...love it.
Definitely a unique necklace, don't you think?
I am, as usual linking up to Yes, Teacher's Tickle me Tuesday post. Hop over and check out the other great finds!
Do you accessorize alot? A little? I tend to wear a necklace most days, but beyond that I'm pretty boring. I always admire people who style themselves well.

Birdies in a nest...

| Nest, Baby Birds & Mama on a mission to peck out my eyeballs |
They're now out of the nest, but there for a while, I had to risk my life every time I went out to water the flowers. {the hose is just to the right of the nest.} She didn't like me getting so close to her babies. I even had to sling some water at her a few times. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm nuts.

I'm exhausted from this weekend, folks! It was a busy one!
We had our garage sale on Friday and Saturday. The weather was aweful...so cold! At least it didn't rain on us. We did pretty well. Made a few hundred bucks, can't complain! I wanted to drop in on Friday, but blogger was down, like all day! What was up with that? Random thoughts will have to wait one more week.
We also managed to fit in watching TRON {surprisingly good!}, a birthday celebration with my dad {wonderful time with family}, some cleaning {bleh} and a dinner with friends {always fun}. All in all, a wonderful weekend, but I could have used some more down time!
Are you feeling rested, or exhausted from your weekend?

Cool knobby things on the top of thier heads...
By far the most hilarious comment from yesterday's getting to know you post was left by my good friend Amber. Below is her answer to what kind of animal she would be:
I think I'd like to be a giraffe. They have those super awesome long necks and black tongues, and since they're herbivores they don't have to hurt any other animals to eat. I like that. And what about those cool knobby things on the top of their heads? What are they for? Being cool, that's what!
Seriously, I was lol-ing. Big time. I love that girl.
And now, to answer some of your questions. I think this week I'll give credit to the asker. What do you all think? Will that freak anyone out? We're all friends here, people. ;) If you really don't want your question posted, just let me know and I'll respect that. No worries.

Elisa of From Croatia...To the States asked: If you were given a million dollars with the condition that you had to spend it all in one day, how would you accomplish this?
This one's tough! I guess, if I had to spend it in one day {which would kill me, cause I've turned into quite the saver} The very first thing I would do is pay off our house, and book a sweet trip to Hawaii. Then, I would take my whole family on a shopping spree. I'd buy a whole new wardrobe for myself and eat the fanciest meals I could find. I'd also get the newest, fastest best Apple computer out there, and all new software. I guess I'd probably get a new car too. That sounds like a lot to do in a day, so I'd probably run out of time. I'm guessing I probably only got to about a quarter of million. I'd give the rest to my church. They'd do something amazing with it!

Grace Louise asked: have you checked out my blog yet, wink wink
:))

And no, I hadn't, but I'm glad I did, and you should too! She's quite the talented photographer!

Angela from Pickles on Pizza asked: Where did you meet Jon?
Jon and I met at a Royals game, which is funny cause neither one of us really enjoys watching baseball. It was 2000, and I was volunteering with the college ministry at our church. We had a get together at the Royals game, and Jon came to it. I remember seeing him across the parking lot talking to some people and noticing his long skinny legs in his shorts and the tatoo around his ankle. One of my friends who had come with me thought he was this guy she used to date {he wasn't} so I had to go ask his name. I can't explain why {except that obviously it was meant to be} but I knew I absolutely needed to know him. I smoothly {or apparently not so smoothly according to him} made sure to sit next to him during the game. We chatted, and then we left. I spent the next month hoping to see him again until he finally came back to a meeting. I'll never forget the butterflies I felt as I saw his head come boppind down the hall. After the get together a group of us went out for ice cream, and we exchanged numbers under the pretense of doing a movie night. With some convincing of my best friend, I finally called him. {that's right, I called HIM!} From there we spent some time talking and started dating shortly after. The rest is history.
*************
And finally, Jacki from Christie Cottage asked: Do you see all God miracles in your daily life?
Absolutely! I am blessed beyond anything I deserve. I've learned to listen for God's guidance and I know he's got me, no matter what. That's the greatest miracle of all.
*************
Thanks again to everyone for participating! I feel kinda selfish keeping all the great comments to myself! I probably shouldn't have asked you all about dessert, cause you all gave me way too much to crave {hello key lime pie and Payday bars!}, and I'm trying to drop a few pounds!
Have a wonderful Thursday! Today is my Friday....Hooray! I'm taking the day off tomorrow cause we're having a garage sale. {ick} I HATE running garage sales. I get all freaked out by the bargaining and I have a hard time parting with things.
I'm still going to try to get a random thoughts post up tomorrow, but it may be later than usual. See you then!
Do you like running garage sales? Any good tips on how to bargain as the seller?

A few fun finds...
I've been thinking more and more about finding a replacement for my Livestrong bracelet. I absolutely love Lance Armstrong, and his foundation, but sometimes I just don't want a big yellow plastic bracelet, you know? I recently came across this on Etsy, and thought it might be a nice way to remember the date that changed our lives forever.
I'm determined to live a happy life despite my circumstances. Sometimes this is easier than others, but there's always joy to be found.
This one's less of a fun find, and more of a new favorite. I won this beauty over at this lovely blog not too long ago, and it has become a fast favorite. It may be called a shopping bag, but I've been carrying it as a purse! It just seems perfect and summery...love it!
I'm once again linking up to Sarah's Tickle me Tuesday link party. Head on over to check out the other great finds!
What are your favorite finds of the week?

Life is good, and more questions answered....
Good morning, friends!
So, my instinct is to complain about it being Monday, and the weekend being over. But, I'm going to try what my pastor talked about yesterday. I'm going to cultivate some love and joy in my life. {fruits of the spirit} I may be faced with another week of work, but life is good, and in the whole scheme of things, I have absolutely nothing to complain about!
This weekend was wonderful. Although I think we just skipped right over spring and moved on to summer. But, warmer weather is here, and I am glad!
I didn't really have anything planned for today, and I've had a few more questions roll in from last week, so I thought I'd just answer a few of those for you today! Sound good?
************
What's something you would tell the future you? The past you?
Future me: Don't ever forget where you came from. I hope you are doing something meaningful with your life, and that you appreciate all I'm doing to get you where you are. ;)
Past me: Lighten up! Stop taking everything so seriously and have a little fun!
***********
What's your lifelong dream?
This one's tough! I guess my lifelong dream would be to become the person God has made me to be. To be a loving wife and mother, and to leave behind a legacy of love. {Oh, and make pretty things.}
***********
What came first - the chicken or the egg?
I'm going to have to go with the chicken.
**********
What made you start painting piggy banks? Whatever it was, I'm glad you started because ours is AMAZING.
First of all, thank you! I'm so glad you like it!
I started painting piggy banks during college. I worked at a local gift shop personalizing all kinds of stuff. I always really enjoyed it, and truthfully, it was that job that set me on a path to being a full time artist. Once I graduated, I moved on to my "real job" as a graphic designer. A couple years ago, my former boss sold the gift shop, and I decided to introduce personalized gifts to my Etsy store. I never wanted for her to feel like I was trying to compete, but once that was no longer an issue, I jumped on it! I've always loved creating something unique and special for people to give {or get}. I find great joy in playing a part, however small, in making a special memory for my customers.
*********
how do I get 400 something followers just like you :))
Honestly, I have got caught up at times in the number of followers I've had, but I know I shouldn't...and neither should you! Just be yourself, and like minded people will find you. If you're looking to grow your blog, I suggest commenting on other blogs. People will come check out your blog from there. Also, keep your layout simple and easy to read. There's nothing that sends me running faster than a bunch of blinking or hard to read fonts. :)

When's your next half marathon??? :) xoxo
I wish I had an answer to this one! I honestly don't know. I do, however know that I will do another. {It was too awesome not to do again.} At the moment, I have my eyes set on another goal. I'll keep you guys posted though!

Thanks again for all your love on the questions post! I look forward to getting to know you all even more!

A pretty bicycle picture and random thoughts from the week....
It's no wonder the dude who sits next to me at work is hard of hearing. I can hear every word to every song he listens to on his headphones. Turn it down, man!
There are a lot of muscles that running doesn't work. A lot. I went to boot camp this week...eeek! Can't wait to do it some more. Bring it!
My shop is experiencing a major drought. Not sure what happened, but I haven't had a sale in almost a month! {although, I was asked to set up a custom listing yesterday...hopefully that means a sale is forthcoming!

Friday, Friday, Friday!
Thank goodness! I've been living for the weekend this week, and it is finally here!
Highlights of my week: Lunch and dinner dates with some of my best girls, super yummy meals by Iowa Girl, my most favorite post in probably forever {getting to know you} and the first bike ride of the season.
Things I'm looking forward to this weekend: Making special mother's day presents for the moms, steak dinners, and planting more flowers.
Today, I am dealing with some massive muscle soreness. I went to boot camp yesterday morning, and holy cow, I'm sore. As stated above, there are lots of muscles that don't get worked with running, I tell ya, and running is all I've done for the last year. Fail.
Do you all have plans for wonderful things this weekend? I hope you're celebrating your moms, whether they're still with us or not. My heart goes out to you friends who are missing your moms this week {and always}. I hope you're comforted. Those of you with moms to hug, squeeze 'em extra tight! I know I'm gonna.
What are your plans for the weekend? Tell me your favorite thing about your mama.
My favorite thing about my mom? Well, that's kinda hard to answer, huh? I guess I'd have to say that she doesn't do anything part way. Whether it's fixing fabulous meals or tending her amazing garden, she always does it all out. Love you mama!

I really, really do....
You guys are the best! I am so blown away at your participation in yesterday's Getting to know you post. Seriously. Freaking. Awesome. I'm just giddy that you all are as excited about this as I am!
So, today, I'm going to answer some of your questions to me:
*
How do you stay organized with all that you do? And how do you balance your life on and off the web?
Honestly, this one made me chuckle. I really am not an organized person in the least. I think it's a constant balancing act. I usually focus on what has to be done today. Sometimes that means painting piggy banks, sometimes it's cleaning the house, or sometimes it's just spending some time with my hubs.
My full time job is a creative position, so being out there {whether in real life or on the web} is part of staying inspired and doing my job well. This blog is just my personal expression of that.
Sometimes it is really difficult to figure out what to post. That's where a schedule comes in handy. I have a couple weekly posts, like a few fun finds on Tuesdays, and random thoughts on Fridays. The rest of the time, I usually just tell you all what I'm thinking about that day. {I contemplate this during my morning shower...I told you, that's where I do my best thinking!}
What takes your breath away?
The last thing that really took my breath away in a memorable way was on my flight back home from LA. We took off from Orange County and circled out over the ocean. The sun had just set, and the lights along the coast had come on. I was absolutely in awe of how beautiful it was. {Now remember, I'm not a good flier.} It just seemed to me in that moment, that I was seeing God's glory. I continued to watch out the window periodically, and as we came over the Rocky Mountains, I had that same feeling again. So, so beautiful. Breathtaking. {Then we hit turbulence and I started praying like crazy!}
Other things that take my breath away...certain worship songs at church, kittens, and Italian paintings.
What are your favorite songs of the moment?
Okay, this is where my lameness shows. I have no idea. Yeah, I know. I've always said, I'm musically challenged. Honestly, I can't even remember the last time I listened to music. I know that's shocking to most people. I carpool, so I do alot of talking. I can listen to headphones at work, but I usually don't. I do listen to my iPod while I run, but it's just a bunch of old songs that have been on there for like 5 years. I really need musical help, people. I do know that I love Jack Johnson, Michael Jackson and Jason Mraz.
Favorite color?
Green.
*
You guys made me thirsty! And gave me a bunch of ideas of yummy things to drink! Very diverse answers.
You also left some pretty sweet comments. Awe, shucks. I feel loved, and am so happy to get to know you better! Let's do it again! ;)
Now, what do you think? Do you like the google form format? Would you rather do it in the comments so everyone can see, or do you like it private just between us?
And seriously, once again. You guys are the best! Thank you.

A few fun finds...
Who knew that fanny packs could be stylish? I would so wear this...and proudly too! {I never thought I'd say that about a fanny pack!}
I'm fairly certain I've posted about this before, but I just came across it again...and still love!
Not sure if I could pull this one off, but I sure think it's cute!
It's Tuesday. Honestly, I wish it were the weekend again already. I hate when I feel like that. Wishing time away is no bueno, cause you just never know, you know? I'm gonna work on pumping up my attitude today.
Oh, one more thing. I made this for dinner last night. Oh. My. Gosh. So good! I think I might have it again tonight. I'm totally obsessing about it.
Two questions:
1. What do you do to get yourself in a positive frame of mind?
2. What did you have for dinner last night?

3 things from the weekend...
1. Black Swan....
Grade: C
I'm still trying to figure out what happened in this movie. I think maybe I'm not smart enough to get it. I did find it somewhat interesting, but Jon hated it. Overall, it's just....eh.
2. The Royal Wedding...
Grade: A
Like I said last week, I'm not someone who usually gets into celebrity worship of any kind, but I couldn't resist this one. The little girl in me wouldn't have it. I enjoyed seeing the production of it all, I mean, who doesn't love a good wedding? My favorite part: the glances the couple gave eachother during the ceremony.
3. Strawberry Freeze...
Grade: B+
I made this dessert for small group last night. It was pretty good, if I do say so myself! The only complaints: 1. It softens really fast! The 15 minutes for softening called for in the recipe should be more like 5. And, 2. the cookie crust was super hard. {This might be partly my fault, as we used chewy chips ahoy instead of regular. Jon wanted chewy. I think the regular might soak up the filling and work better, instead of just freezing into solid blocks.} I'd definitely make it again though!
**********************************************************************************************************************************
Other than the above, my weekend was lovely. We had some beers with the neighbors {new and old}on Friday night. {Have I told you how much I love where I live?} Got to spend some time with my dad while Jon worked on his truck on Saturday. Crossed some things off our to-do list, and spent time with friends. I even picked up the house a bit. {I feel like I can breathe again as every surface isn't covered in random junk now.}
How was your weekend? What's the best thing that happened?
