Vintage Lunchboxes...

Check out this sweet collection of lunchboxes! Wouldn't that make for such a fun kitchen/dining area!?

When I came across this image on Pinterest, it got me thinking about my lunchboxes as a kid. My first lunchbox was a Strawberry shortcake one. I'm guessing it was like this one on Etsy, although the design isn't really ringing true to my memory.  I do seem to remember that lattice pattern on the sides though!
I also had a Sesame Street one.  {maybe it was my first...it's hard to say}  JUST LIKE THIS:
found here on iOffer.com {never heard of this site, but it looks kinda cool!}

Later, when they stopped making them metal and I got too cool for Sesame Street, I had a plastic Pound Puppies one like this, only mine was magenta instead of red:
via Ebay.

Ahhhhh, memories.

Remember how great lunches were out of those things?  I remember staring at the designs, especially the Sesame Street one.  I always loved that they each have their own lunchbox in the picture too.  I also always loved the way the handle folded down flat, and the clanking noise it made as you carried it.  Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I wonder if my mom still has these...that would be awesome!

Okay, now I know you all had some character lunchboxes.....I'm dying to know which you had...do tell!

Help me bloggy-blog readers, you're my only hope....

Happy Monday!
I can't say that I'm necessarily excited for a new work week, but I am ready for a fresh start.  Last week was not a good one.   I mean, I've had worse, but it wasn't very good.  I was dealing with some family drama, and going round and round with a vendor.  Let's just say I had my fair share of breakdowns last week.  Ugh.  No more!  I just want to start fresh this week with a better attitude and a clean slate.

So, here goes...

We painted our office on Saturday.  I'm still trying to decide if I like it.  I want to like it, but I'm just not sure.  Maybe you guys can help.

We chose Sherwin William's Rainwashed.  {only we had it mixed in Behr paint at Home Depot...cheaters}  I decided to go with your suggestions of picking a neutral, but I thought I'd kick it up just a notch and pick a fun neutral {turquoise can be neutral, right?}.  So many of my pins had turquoise walls, so I decided on this, what I thought to be a toned down, dirty turquoise.
I had a hard time getting a good photo of the room, in fact my pictures totally bite, so I found some online.  Both these claim to use the same color paint we used.

Obviously, my office is not a beautiful bedroom, but at least you get the idea.

My concern is, it looks so blue to me!  And, I am not at all a fan of powder blue.  It's really making me nervous.  Jon says it looks turquoise to him.

These rooms both look turquoise, but ours looks powder blue, I swear!  Do you think it's cause my room is empty?  Perhaps the light reflecting off the snow is casting a blue tint?  I just see more blue than green in mine.

Do you think I should make my poor husband re-paint, or do you think once I get the furniture in and the shelving that it will be okay?   I need to decide soon.  Poor Jon.

Office Makeover 2011: Choosing Paint...

Ever since the big dig of 2010, we've been scheming our next big project.  Office Makeover 2011!  I've been gathering inspiration for a long time, and am oh so excited!  We're going to incorporate a tall craft table and lots of shelving for organization.

I keep trying to decide what color to paint.  On one hand, I want something bright and cheerful, but I seem to be drawn to spaces with white {or neutral} walls  where the materials and decor's colors can make the statement.  I'm not sure which I'll find more inspiring.

In fact, as I go through my pinboard, more often than not I've pinned pretty neutral spaces.  This would definitely flow with the rest of our house, but is it too boring?  I'm scared bright colors might feel dated sooner than I'll want to repaint too.  But, the whole purpose of this space is to inspire me and make me want to spend time in it creating things.  Oh, what to do!?

What do you think?  Should I go bright and colorful, or neutral with pops of color?

Rolling thunder...

I woke up at 4:30 this morning to the sound of thunder.  Is there anything better than:  1) waking up and realizing you still have 2 hours to sleep before you have to get up, and 2) getting to drift off to a thunderstorm?  I think not.  Absolute bliss!

The dark and stormy morning had me wishing that I could snooze the day away, though.  No such luck.

Wouldn't you just love to curl up in one of those beds?  The first one would be especially nice during a thunderstorm with all those windows, don't you think?

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

I have a new thing for mirror covered walls.  My in-laws have decorated their powder room with antique hand mirrors hung on the wall, and although it creates a sort of spooky atmosphere in a hundred year old house, I love it!  Their walls are painted black, so the shimmer of the glass really pops.  I think it's the perfect way to add interest in a small space.

Here are a couple examples of great mirror walls {in my humble opinion}....

What do you guys think of this idea?  Love it? Loathe it?

library of congress...

thanks to still dottie for pointing me toward the fabulous library of congress shop today!  I am in love with so many of these prints, I'm not sure where I would begin.  Hundreds of prints starting at $28 for an 8x10.  I can't get enough of the vintage charm of these images.
The shop also has many other wonderful things that I have yet to explore, like stationery, jewelry, office accessories, and much more!  Who knew?!
