Two Months...

This post is a little late going up, but with the holidays and all....well, you know.  Better late than never!  

Can you believe how much our little guy has grown in just a month?  {see last month's here}  He's getting bigger every day, I swear.  He's been wearing 3 month size clothes for weeks now, and has just about doubled his weight since birth.  He gets cuter every single day, and we cannot imagine our life without him.  Right now, I'm upstairs in the office writing this post and I miss him...he's downstairs.

He's smiling a lot, but has yet to laugh.  Although, I swear I've heard him chuckle in his sleep.  He's starting to try to imitate facial expressions and noises, but most of the time he's just contemplative.  I can't wait to hear his belly laugh!

We love you the whole world's sky, Mr. Isaac!

I haven't been around here much lately, but for good reason.  {see above}  One of my goals for 2013 is to get back to blogging regularly, so you WILL see me more.  Promise.  2013 is going to rock.

Something big...

One Month...

Our little man turned one month old last week!

I fully intend to do a post sometime on the whole story of Isaac's arrival.  I really need to document it somewhere!  But, for now, I'll make it brief.

My water broke at about 2:22(ish) a.m. on October 21st.  After a momentary panic attack and some frantic packing (finishing the hospital bag was on my to-do list for that day!) we headed to the hospital, calling our families on the way.  My labor didn't progress after a few hours, so they started me on pitocin.  I opted for the epidural pretty early.  I figured, that was the whole point of getting one, so you don't have to suffer through labor, right?  Around lunch time, I started feeling really cold.  At the time, I thought I was simply starting to feel how cold the room was.  The entire family had been complaining about how cold it was all morning.  But, in reality, I was developing a fever. It's all kind of a blur to me now, but at some point my doctor came in and told us she thought it was time to do a c-section.  She was concerned about my fever, and the fact that I still had not progressed past 4 cm.  In what seemed like 10 min, I was on the operating table.  (BTW, I was terrified of having to have a c-section, and had convinced myself that there was no way it would happen.)  At 4:11 p.m. my life changed forever.  Out came our son, with the cord wrapped around his neck twice and in a true knot.  Boy was NOT coming out vaginally! 

He weighed in at 7 lbs, 4 oz and 19.5 inches long.  We named him Jon Isaac after his dad, but will call him Isaac.  

The first week was spent in the hospital, where Isaac received antibiotics in the NICU for an infection he contracted during labor.  (Same infection that gave me the fever.)  It was a long week, but it was full of visits from family and friends. 

Since then we've been getting used to our new normal.  The first night home he slept 6 hours.  Since then, it's varied anywhere from 4-6 hour stretches.  He's pretty good at sleeping, except he likes to make crazy noises that keep me up all night sometimes. 

Jon has been an amazing dad!  I knew he would be, but he's been even better than I could have hoped.  In many ways, I think he's by far the better parent.  He's a natural, what can I say!?

The grandparents are all smitten, of course.  It's so fun to see them all ooh and aah over him.  

As of yesterday, 11/27, Isaac weighs 11 lbs!  I cannot believe how fast he's growing!

We've started seeing little smiles here and there, and I cannot wait for more.

We are completely, 100%, crazy in love.  Being a mama is by far the greatest thing I've ever experienced, and I'm enjoying every second!

Full Term, This & That...

Lately, my mind is a jumble of to-do lists, daydreams, a little worry, and a whole lot of excitement.  Today marks 37 weeks....which means BabyD is officially full term!  Hooray!  This also means that we'll be meeting our little one so very soon! 

Now, if I'm still holding on three weeks from now, I may eat these words, but as of right now, I still maintain that this pregnancy has flown by.  Until just the last week or so, I've had the smoothest pregnancy I could ask for, really.  And even the last week hasn't been horrible by any stretch. 

I have noticed that the hormonal emotional "stuff" has ramped up.  I'm sort of able to cry at the drop of a hat, and my fuse is getting shorter as well.

Yesterday, my fingers kept going numb at work, which was super annoying.  The doctors office said that most likely BabyD is lying on a nerve.  I felt off all day too, and ended up cutting out a half hour early to go home and lie down.

Feeling much better this morning, and hoping it continues.

Last night I found myself in tears following an hour on hold with the cable company only to find the information I needed stuck to the side of the new router.  Ugh. 

As I type this, BabyD is kicking around in my belly...I know I'm gonna miss this.  {And, now I'm feeling those tears welling up.}  But, I can't wait to meet this little person.  To look into his/her eyes, and to be their mama.  I can't wait for the first time Jon makes BabyD crack up.  I have a feeling that's gonna happen alot, and I'm gonna love it every single time.  And, don't even get me started on Christmas.  We're gonna have a little one at Christmas!  I've dreamed of that for so long.

Life is good.  I'm nervous, but oh so grateful for this gift.  I cannot imagine what we're about to experience, and I'm determined to soak up every single drop.

It's Friday once again, friends!  Am I the only one who thinks the weeks are flying by?  I can't seem to keep up anymore.

Tomorrow marks one month til our due date.....how crazy is that!?  I find myself in a state of denial lately.  I can't quite seem to wrap my brain around the fact that we're having a baby, let alone that we're having it within the next few weeks!  I say to Jon at least once a day, "do you realize we're about to be parents?"  He's much more chill about it than I am, and doesn't seem quite as perplexed by it as I am.  I guess that sort of makes sense considering he doesn't have labor to look forward to.....OMG.  I have to give birth to a person.....seriously, people!  How did this happen!? 

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting so excited to meet this little person!  I just can't believe it's really real.  This thing I've been dreaming  of my whole life is about to happen.  Motherhood.  I'm gonna be someone's mom!  Sometimes I try to imagine what it will be like two months from now.  I know there's no way for me to fathom what's about to happen to my life, and my heart...but I still try.

I also find myself getting sentimental about the ending of the phase of just Jon and I.  We've dreamed of a family for so long, but I can't help but be a little sad to see our 'just us' time end.

Am I normal?  Or, is this all evidence that I'm going to be a horrible mother?  

Please reassure me.

October....

It's October.  October!

{did you know if you see the word October too many times it starts looking really weird!?}

Anyway....there is a chance we could meet BabyD this month!  He/She would have to be about a week early to sneak in on Halloween, but that's entirely possible, right? 

I'm not sure if I've talked about this on here before, but I am actually guessing BabyD will make his/her arrival during the last week of October.  Just a feeling I've had all along.  See, Jon's entire family celebrates birthdays during that week.  It's Davis birthday week.  Jon's is the 22nd, his dad's is the 25th, and his mom's is the 30th.  It would seem fitting for the next generation of the Davis family to make its appearance then too, would it not?  I guess early November would still be pretty close, but I just think this is an October baby.

And yes, I know that first babies "usually don't come early", and I'm probably setting myself up for a miserable last couple weeks of pregnancy because I'll be thinking BabyD should be here before they're actually due.  But, that's just my mama's intuition.  So there.  We shall see.

In other news, the nursery is done!  And by done I mean, finished except for a couple minor tweaks.  Finished right on schedule as we'd planned, but the beginning of October.  I love it so much, and cannot wait to share it with you!  I spent a good 30-45 minutes just sitting in there last night taking it all in.  It's just perfect, and has just the feel I was going for.  My husband is a total rock star for bringing my vision to life.   

Also with October comes pumpkins, and fall leaves, and fall smells.  I love it.

Swaddle Designs Review & Giveaway...

Swaddle Designs has a wide variety of products for baby, including blankets, burp cloths and even an adult swaddle wrap!  Seriously.  Take a look around their website!  As much as I know I'd enjoy that adult wrap, I'm so excited that they offered to send me a Swaddle Lite set of 3 Marquisette Blankets and a White Noise CD from The Happiest Baby for BabyD.

It was so hard to decide which adorable print to choose from their line of Swaddle Lites.  I ultimately went with the Jewel Tone Turquoise set.  I love the cute little birds, and turquoise and green are great for boys or girls!

The lightweight fabric of these blankets is awesome!  They would be great for babies born in warmer temps.  Since BabyD is due in November, we'll probably be bundling him/her up, but I still think these will be perfect inside.  I was really impressed with how big they are!  46"  x 46".  And, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that they each have a tag with a 1-2-3 Swaddle instructional label sewn in to help us learn to swaddle correctly!  I know that will come in handy in the early days. 

The Swaddle Designs website also has great information on How To Swaddle.  We'll certainly be referencing that as well. 

The White Noise CD, by Dr. Harvey Karp, Author of the Happiest Baby on the Block promises to add 1-3 hours to baby's sleep cycle.  Um, yes, please!  While some of the sounds seem a little scary to me, I totally believe this just might work!  I actually have a white noise app on my phone that I use when I'm having trouble falling asleep, and it works like a charm every time.  The CD has sounds for soothing fussing.  The "fast & vigorous" one is the one that sounds scary to me.  It's even described as "strange" right on the label, but hey, whatever works!  There are also sounds for increasing sleep.  They're more "womb" sounds, much like what you hear on the doplar at the Dr.'s office.  Of course, my favorite is the rain noise.  We could both nap to that one! I'm excited to give that a try.

Wall Sticker Company Review...

The kind people at The Wall Sticker Company sent us one of their Perched Owl wall stickers for review.

For starters, their shipping from Australia was super fast and it made it all the way from down under in perfect condition. 

It took me a while to figure out the best place for our new little hooty friend, but eventually, I decided on using it in BabyD's bathroom.  We received lots of frog bathroom things at our shower, so we thought we'd start there for a theme.  We painted the walls a soft yellow {it looks a little brighter in the photos}, and I came across the perfect shower curtain at Target that pulled it all together!  There aren't any frogs on it, but there are owls, and squirrels and trees....so we have a happy little woodland theme in the bathroom.  I think the Perched Owl wall sticker adds the perfect touch to make it extra special!

We did have a little problem at first, as the decal didn't work exactly as the instructions described.  They said to gently scratch the top layer {to get the decal to stick to it} and pull it up to then stick on the wall.  That did not work for us at all.  I emailed our contact at the company, and she said that they could re-do the top layer adhesive, but that it would be difficult to get it to us in time for this week's festivities, so we decided to give it a go by just peeling and sticking per her advice, which as you can see, was a success!  It was definitely a feat that required all four of our hands...no way you'd be able to do it this way by yourself.  Hence no in-progress photos. 

Overall, I'm so happy with the way it turned out!  I'm sure it's easier when you can position it through the clear upper layer, but this way worked just great with a little patience. 

I love the whimsy that it adds to the bathroom, and can just imagine our little one pointing up to it someday and saying "hoo, hoo!".

Medela Calma Bottle Review & Giveaway...

I plan on breastfeeding whenever possible, but at some point, we will need to be able to feed from a bottle.  I want Jon to be able to participate in feedings, and at some point we'll want to be able to leave the baby with Grammy for the evening, not to mention when I go back to work.  We've all heard how difficult it can be to switch from breast to bottle and back again.  I've never quite understood why.  Until now.

Calma is specifically designed based on research done on how breastfed babies nurse.  The Calma system is made to mimic breastfeeding.  Baby is able to control the flow of milk through creating a vacuum, just like they do at the breast.  The Calma nipple is also designed to fit in the baby's mouth just like your own nipple does.  {which is quite surprising, considering how long it looks!  Who knew your nipple expanded that much? Ha!}

Now, I've never known much about what makes one bottle better than another, but I can see how this one would be great for a breastfed baby.  I'm looking forward to using Calma as our bottle alternative to nursing.  The Calma nipples will work seamlessly with my Medela breast pump.

Also of note, Medela let me know about the iBreastfeed App, available in the Apple App Store.  It provides information and resources for breastfeeding along with helping you track your breastfeeding and pumping for up to six babies.  {yikes!}  I've already downloaded it so I can familiarize myself with how it works before BabyD makes his/her arrival.

Woombie Wrap & Snap Baby Swaddler Review...

I'm not gonna lie.  The first time I saw a Woombie, I immediately thought "baby straight jacket".

That being said, I've heard great things about this product!  The Woombie makes it easy to swaddle your baby, and its uniquely designed four way stretch fabric is made to mimic the womb, making your baby feel nice and secure.  Swaddling is said to help babies sleep better, and keeps them from inadvertently startling themselves or scratching their own face.

It was immediately evident to me that the Woombie is very well constructed.  I love this cute design, and that I can adjust the tightness of the swaddling around the arms with the velcro fasteners.  The fabric feels so soft and high quality.  I could see how a baby would snuggle in for the night in it.  Also, there's a double zipper, which makes for easy diaper changes.

Can't wait to make a little BabyD Burrito. ;)

Sensible Lines Milk Trays Review & Giveaway....

As a first time mom-to-be, I'm admittedly quite clueless when it comes to breastfeeding, let alone breast pumping and milk storage.  {I'm hoping to feel more confident on the subject come tomorrow evening when we take our breastfeeding class!}  Seems to me that the simpler the solution, the better it would work.

I've seen the breast milk bags in the nursing section of Target, but those just look messy and expensive!  When I came across Milk Trays by Sensible Lines, I knew they looked like something worth trying. 

I love the idea that the milk gets frozen in perfect one ounce bars, which makes measuring easy and waste free.  Milk can be frozen in the BPA-free, medical grade trays, and then stored in regular freezer bags for up to four months.  When you're ready to use, you can simply take out the quantity you need, thaw and use.  I can't imagine it getting any simpler.  Plus, the versatile shape of the trays means the frozen bars will fit through any bottle opening on the market. Also, the trays are reusable, which will keep costs down....always a bonus!

I know the whole breast feeding thing will take some trial and error, but I'm confident with this system, freezing the milk won't be a cause for worry!

Moby Wrap Review & Giveaway...

I've always been intrigued by baby wearing.  I've seen moms out and about with their babies strapped into these wraps and always thought they looked so cozy.  At the same time, I was mesmerized with how on earth the moms were able to tie that wrap!

Since getting pregnant, I've learned a little more about Moby Wraps, and knew I wanted to reach out to them for the baby shower event here on jdavissquared.  I'm thrilled that they were willing to participate, and am so excited to kick off this week of reviews and giveaways with the Moby Wrap!

I chose the Original Wrap in Leaf as shown above.  I love the rich green color, and felt like it will transition well from season to season.  My first impression was of the darling packaging.  The wrap comes perfectly rolled up and in a self fabric bag. 

Jon and I "tested" out tying the wrap using the detailed instruction booklet that came with it.  {There are also great instructions on the website, along with videos!} Honestly, it was slightly intimidating at first.  This wrap is LONG!  Definitely something I'll have to plan ahead to wear.  For instance, I could see myself putting it on before leaving the house if I plan to carry BabyD around the store, and then place them in it when I get there.  Not something you want to be trying to tie in a parking lot.
It didn't take long before we realized it's really quite simple.  I think it will just take a little practice.

I had planned to take pictures of me wearing it, but it was a little awkward with the belly!  I can see how it will fit much better after the baby is born.  

One thing I haven't quite figured out, is how to store it.  I'm not sure I'll ever get it rolled back up like it came.  Any advice for "neat" storage?  You know, other than wadding it into a ball?

What's new with you guys?

"People who are due when you said you are are NOT that big."

Friday, I went to this little fast food mexican place for lunch with my dad and Linda.  The place has been there forever, and upon entering we were greeted by the lady behind the counter, who I swear I remember from when I was a kid.  She was probably  a teenager working there then, and has obviously made a career of it.  From here on out, we'll call her "Taco Via".

While I placed my order, Taco Via stared at my belly.  While slightly awkward, this is something I've grown increasingly accustomed to in the last few weeks.  Then she asks,

Taco Via:  "When are you due?"

Me:  "November 6th."

Taco Via:  "Wow, you're really big.  That looks like it could pop any time."

Me:  "Well, sometimes it feels like it could pop."

Taco Via:  "Sometimes when I tell people they're big, they say it's cause there are twins in there."

Me:  "There's only one in here!"

Riiiiiiight.  Now, you might be thinking that was bad.  And, quite frankly, it was.  Luckily, I was in a good mood and not about to let Taco Via make me feel bad about myself. 

We went about our way, and ate our lunch.  At some point, I got up to get a refill on my drink.  Taco Via was now by the drink station doing whatever Taco Via's do between customers.  She then engages me in conversation yet again:

Taco Via:  "So, is this your first?"

Me:  "Yes."

Taco Via:  "Cause people who are due when you said you are are NOT that big."

Me:  "Well, we're all different!"....awkwardly smiling and thinking, is anyone else catching this?!?

Taco Via:  "Sometimes if it's their second or third baby they might be, cause they haven't lost all the weight from the first one."

Me: "....., yeah?"

And then, I honestly can't remember if anything else was said.  I looked up at a woman sitting in a booth nearby who's eyes were the size of saucers.  She quickly looked away, and I made my way back to our table.  My dad immediately told me not to pay any attention to her, that she's crazy. 

By the grace of God, I was in just the right mood that afternoon, that I didn't feel hurt by any of this.  I mean, really, it was so absurd that I could only laugh.  It was as though she was reading straight out of the "What Not to Say to a Pregnant Woman Handbook".  I'm not sure you could have scripted it to be worse.

That being said, dad, Linda and I had fun coming up with all the things I could have said in response.

For instance:

"Oh, and how far along are you?"

or

 "How many babies have you had, cause I can tell you haven't lost all the weight yourself"  {Taco Via is not a lean woman.}

or

{while smiling nicely} "You're so lucky I'm not kicking your ass right now."

I think the only thing that could have made it worse is if she'd tried to go in for a belly feel.  That is probably where I would have lost it.

Store Closing {temporarily} August 24th...

I've known {and had displayed in my shop announcements} that I would be closing the shop around Labor Day for quite some time.  As my belly has gotten bigger and bigger, and I can now barely fit in the school desk that I paint at, I've decided......its' time.  One week from today, on Friday August 24th, jdavissquared's Etsy shop will be closing it's virtual doors for the remainder of 2012!  Such a bittersweet decision!  It's no secret that I love my little shop and all the great customers that find their way to me.  But, I'm also really excited to finish up my orders and then concentrate on all things baby! 

If you've had your eye on something in the shop, don't delay!  I have not set a date for re-opening, but I anticipate it being sometime early next year.  I'm looking forward to coming back in the new year with lots of new designs, and maybe even some new products.

Glucose Test Day....

I have my glucose test today...wish me luck!  Seriously, if I am cut off from sugar, I might die.  I've had a bit of a sweet tooth as of late!  I'm hoping that means I'm primed and ready to digest this:

I've heard varying degrees of how disgusting this is gonna be.  The people I trust most say it won't be that bad.  But, they're probably the same people who try to make me feel better and not worry about it.....I'll keep you posted!  

I took the day off work so I could sleep in, and so I could have easy access to non-sugar, non-carb foods this morning so I don't throw off my results.  I'm getting ready to make some scrambled eggs.  After the blood work, we have a sonogram!  {Hooray!}  Cannot wait to see BabyD again, and catch a glimpse of the little person who's been bouncing around in there. 

After the sono, we meet with our Doctor, so we quite literally could be there all afternoon.  Seems like we always wait forever to see her.  But, that's okay, cause she is so great, and takes her time to answer any questions.  Plus, she's probably late from delivering a baby, and someday, we'll be the one's making her late to her appointments!  :)  Jon's mom is coming along for the festivities today.  I can't even remember the last time I saw her.  Might have been when we told her we were pregnant!  So, I fully expect to have my belly molested.  ;)

I'm actually 28 weeks today....I'll try to get a belly pic later today, depending on how cute/not cute I'm feeling, and I'll plan to post a bumpdate tomorrow with the results of today and some sono pics!  Eeeee!  I'm so excited to see that little face!  :)

Have you had a glucose test?  How bad was it?

Oh, and friends, we could use some prayers.  We're full blown into discussing care for this child after it's  born.  Mostly what going back to work looks like, and how that is all going to pan out logistically.  I do have a strong sense of peace, that God will guide us in the right direction for our family, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't anxious about it.  Thanks!

On the verge of nesting....

I'll be 28 weeks pregnant tomorrow.  28!  That means, I'm officially entering my third trimester, which completely blows my mind.  I guess I expected these weeks to crawl by, but they have just flown!

With time whizzing by, I've started  a few lists of things that MUST get done before this little one makes his/her appearance.  Some things are absolute musts, like getting registered at the hospital, and others are musts in my head, but probably not mandatory, like organizing the pantry.

My etsy shop has been showing steady growth all year {which is fantastic!} but it's going to have to go on the back burner for a while.  I've had an announcement on the front page for some time warning customers that I'll be closing down around Labor Day for the remainder of 2012, reopening sometime in early 2013.  As of this moment, I have 13 piggy banks, a growth chart, and a toy box to paint......yeah.  I'm busy!  Problem is, my attention is getting pulled more and more toward nesting!  Jon and I were discussing when to close up shop over the weekend. {Oh, it also doesn't help that I'm about 1/8 inch away from not fitting in my school desk that I paint at anymore.  Belly's getting big!}  I hate to close up the shop, because I love it so much!  And, I can't help but wonder if my customers will return in the new year after I'm gone for so long.

But, I also know that I need this time before BabyD comes to prepare not only our home, but my heart.  I need time to sit and contemplate this magnificent change that is coming.
To soak in this time with my husband.
And to scrub the crap outta every inch of this house.  

I'll be making a decision on the official closing date this week.  So, if you're wanting anything from jdavissquared in the next 4-5 months, you better get on over there!  ;)

Does anyone have experience with closing shop for an extended leave?  I'd love to hear your thoughts! 

25/27 week bumpdate....

Well, folks, the belly's getting quite large around here!  I actually didn't realize quite how big I am until I uploaded these photos.  I have to say, I'm a little shocked.....

Anyway, since it's been a while since I bumpdated, I thought I'd do some photos from week 25, and 27.  {I'm 27 weeks today!}

We were in Nashville at 25 weeks, and took the opportunity to take some pictures at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  Probably the most picturesque background we're going to get for bump pics.

(In case you can't tell, I was sweating profusely when these were taken....it was a wee bit humid in there!)

Jon took these next ones last night.  Right after he took some other not so good ones, and I told him he's the worst picture taker ever, and to take them like Amanda......yeah.  Sorry about that honey!  These turned out great!  :)

They're taken in the nursery, which is coming along quite nicely, if I do say so myself.  I thought about showing some sneak peeks here on the blog, but I think I'll wait for a big reveal.  Still lots of love to pour into that space.  

27...

So now for the big question...."How are you feeling?"

You know, I get asked that about a gazillion times a day.  

I'm feeling good!  {A week ago I was answering with "great", but I'm thinking it's more good now.}

Nothing too uncomfortable going on.  I have had a couple days where I think I'm getting Braxton Hicks...at least that's what my friends have told me is probably happening.  My belly gets really tight, and I'm not in pain, but it is uncomfortable, and makes me just want to lie down and relax.  I've also been told this could be due to some dehydration....which is probably quite likely.  Drink up!  

Other than that, I've been feeling pretty good!  It's only just occurred to me that I'm beginning  my third trimester already!  It's absolutely insane to me how fast this pregnancy is going.   I had no idea it would fly like this.  In fact, I pretty much assumed I'd feel like crap the whole time, which, thankfully, has not been the case at all.  {knock on wood} I'd say, I've had a really great pregnancy so far.  Very thankful for that.  

BabyD is a little wiggle worm, I will tell you that!  Child bounces around in there constantly some days.  For some reason every time he/she kicks my hand, it startles me.  Yes, I'm a dork.  It's just so strong!  And deliberate!  Getting stronger every day too.  According to my app, baby is weighing in at about 2 pounds this week, which means, he/she is going to just about quadruple in size over the next three months...I can only imagine how crazy the movements are going to get! 

Also, my sweet friends are planning a shower for me in September, and I'm so excited!  Cannot wait to get together with all the special ladies in my life and celebrate this little person.

I'm getting more and more excited to meet you.  I can't wait to find out who you are.  Last night your daddy and I were talking about Christmas, and how exciting it's going to be to have you here to celebrate with us.  I have a feeling every day will feel like Christmas for a while.  I can hardly wait!

This morning, I....

woke up to the most uplifting email from a good friend.  I can see God working in people's lives, and it's absolutely amazing.  I'm so lucky to have a team of friends full of faith!

 

was pondering what I want to be when I grow up.  Still haven't figured that one out. 

 

passed a nun in a PT Cruiser on the way to work......that does not happen everyday.

 

am trying to remember the details of a dream I had last night.  The baby was here, and it was squishy, and cute, and oh so sweet.  Only problem is I took it out in public and then misplaced it...{!!!} Stressful!  I'm trying to remember if it was a boy or girl.

am STARVING and wish I'd made some iced coffee for this morning.

 

 

What's up in your world?

Nashville Babymoon 2012....

1. We're home from our Babymoon, and it was so much fun.  More than anything, it was so nice to spend time together without the usual distractions.  I cannot tell you how much we needed that.

2. The drive through St. Louis on the way there was STRESSFUL!  I'm just glad Jon was driving!  {in fact, he drove the entire vacation.  Yeah, I'm spoiled!}

3. We had to stop at Whitehaven in Paducah, KY.  My family used to go there often when I was a kid.  My great aunt lived in Paducah.  It's funny how places you went as a kid look so different as an adult.  It also made me miss my Aunt Andree.

4/5. Our first stop in Nashville was the Parthenon.  It was pretty impressive.  Plus, we were super pumped about the cooler weather!  {it's been HOT here in KS}

6.  Next we headed to Broadway, A.K.A. Music Row.  Jon bought a cowboy hat, and we came across these little dogs just hanging out on a motorcycle accepting tips.  Totally hilarious!

7. That night we tried Jeni's Ice Cream.  Don't kill us, but we didn't really see what all the fuss was about....

8. Sunday, we headed to the Zoo.  Lots of walking....I'm definitely out of shape.  We fell in love with this little goat, and think they need one on the farm.  ;)

9/10. Monday we explored J. Percy Lake.  We would have loved to have gone to the water park, but being preggo and all, we thought we better not.  That evening we headed back downtown for some bbq and live music.  That's where our 22 showed up!  Hi Grandpa!

11.  Tuesday was quite possibly the most exciting day of all.  We met Dave Ramsey!!!!  I was so nervous, but it ended up being totally fun!  It's not everyday that you get to meet a celebrity, much less one that has impacted your life in such amazing ways.

12/13/14.  Wednesday was perfect.  We started the day with breakfast buffet, then spent some time at the pool...so relaxing!  {we vowed to spend more time at our neighborhood pool for the rest of summer} Then, we headed to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  If you go to Nashville, this is a must see!  It's absolutely amazing. {We did get suckered into parking in the $20 parking lot though, don't do that....park at the mall and walk over!}  We had some dinner and wandered the conservatories.  Then we walked over to the Grand Ole Opry where we took in the show, including Rascal Flatts.  At first, I thought I might have a panic attack.  Our seats were literally at the very top of the nosebleed section, and I had to crawl over some people to get to them, which had me a little nervous, since my balance isn't what it used to be.  Luckily, I made it through the show without having to pee, and ended up having a great time!  We learned who Lauren Alaina is, and we loved her!  She was a total doll face.

All in all, great trip!  We're excited to be home and to get ready for this little baby that is kicking non-stop now!  Lots to do, and only 14 weeks to go!  Eeeeek!  :)

Snap, Crackle, Pop.....

 
About three years ago, right after we moved into our house, we had some friends over one evening.  The guys were all watching UFC fights, and one of the girls and I sat outside and talked for a long time.  I remember it being cool, which is weird, cause it was most definitely July.  Not anything like this year, obviously.  Anyway, however I was sitting in our patio chair did some serious damage to my lower back.  Maybe that's not the end-all cause, but that was the "breaking" point.  I remember standing up and suddenly being overwhelmed with lower back pain.  It was all I could do to keep a smile on my face til everyone left.  Then, I promptly put a heating pad on it and fell asleep on the couch.  Yeah.  That was probably the worst thing I could have done.  The next morning, I could not stand up!  Literally.  I spent the rest of the day lying down, because standing was excruciating.  Absolute, hands down worst pain I've ever felt.  {Well, perhaps tied with the time the dentist zapped me with the drill without numbing me enough first.  But that was short lived, this was ALL DAY.}

All that to say, my back hasn't been the same since.  I'm not in constant pain, but it comes and goes.  Usually getting worse when I'm on my feet alot, or try to run half marathons and stuff.  It has always felt like the vertebrae in my very lower back is out....but of course, I'm stubborn and scared, so I've never gone to a chiropractor or anything.  ;)

Throughout my pregnancy, I was amazed at how good it felt.  I chalked it up to that fun stuff that loosens all your ligaments.  After long days on my feet for Girls Weekend, it's been hurting again.  And now, I have this giant belly to leverage, which has made it interesting.

Last night it happened.  I moved in such a way that something popped near my tailbone.  It sent a pain shooting through my spine, and at first I thought it was going to be really bad.  But then.......my back felt different.  Better.  NORMAL.  Something I don't think I've felt in a loooong time.  Perhaps 3 years?

Now, I might be jumping the gun.  Maybe it's just a fluke.  That's my fear.  Especially after I write a long {probably boring} blog post about it.  So far though, I feel like a new woman!  I'm praying this lasts, cause it feels really, really good to feel normal!

Also, we're leaving on vacation tomorrow, and I can't wait!!!  {I'm usually weird about posting such things on the internet, but I figured what the hey.  Any stalkers or burglars be warned....we have neighbors with lots of guns, and they aren't afraid to use them.  Oh, and they're not just neighbors, they're good friends...and they have our back!}
