This is Halloween....

Happy Halloweeeeeeeen!

I had given in to the fact that I wouldn't be dressing up this year until last night at 7:00.  By 7:30, I had a costume ready to go!  I remembered seeing this image on Pinterest {Well, actually, my friend reminded me about it at small group.  Hi, Amber!}, and decided that maybe a doll costume was doable after all!

One purple baby doll dress, some white tights, a big bow tied on a headband, my navy blue mary janes from junior prom {how scary is it that I still own these?} and some make up later...voila!  I'm a doll.

Funny story about the tights...I had some in my drawer, but since I havn't exactly worn white tights in at least 10 years, they were a little snug.  I could have made them work, but decided I'd be alot more comfortable at work if I just gave in and bought some new/bigger ones.  We ran up to the grocery store to return a Redbox, and I grabbed some new ivory hose from the hosiery section.  I got all excited cause there was a package with a "$1 off now" coupon attached, but it expired in 2008!!!  I guess they don't sell many pantyhose at the grocery store these days. 

I'm working, of course, but it's cool, there are lots of Halloween festivities going on.  Tonight my dad and his girlfriend are coming over to watch the Chiefs game and hand out candy at our house.  We're going to make chili, and perhaps have some beverages.  I can't wait to see all the neighborhood kiddos.  They're always so fun!

P.S.  In regards to the title of this post, I have never seen Nightmare Before Christmas...Isn't that sad? I just know the song from hearing people sing it.  I really need to watch that movie!

Halloween 2010...

I couldn’t resist sharing this house down the street from us with you.  I love the way they’ve built this façade around their existing porch.  It’s even cooler at night with a strobe light and all the little eyes peeking out from between the slats light up to be extra creepy.  Love it.

How was your Halloween?  We had so much fun seeing all the neighborhood kids dressed up.  We had one little girl, who was probably about 18 months old, dressed like a clown, who didn’t want to leave our house!  She stood on our front walkway and waved to us, and even blew us a kiss.  It was adorable! 

I think we did get fewer trick or treaters than last year, with it being on a Sunday, and it was much cooler than last year, but there were still a ton.  We bought 6 bags of candy and have some left over.  Last year we ran out, so I'd say that's pretty good. 

Some of our favorite costumes:  Artist, Flower, Parole Officer {this is one Jon claims to have seen, however there’s some debate as to whether it really said “police officer” on his jacket},   Mr. Peanut and some teen who just had a towel around his waist {not sure what he thought he was, but he looked cold!}  The cutest little Batman and Spider Man you ever did see, and a girl dressed as a boy {totally fooled me!}.

Another successful Halloween.  This marks the beginning of the holiday season, and I’m so excited! Let the Christmas shopping begin!

I love getting emails from friends I haven't heard from in forever.

I hate when I realize half way to work that I forgot to put on deodorant.  I need to get an emergency tube.  Am I the only one this happens to?

I'm dying to stay home and do nothing but make all the things I've gathered here.

I finally made it to the front page on Etsy, and I missed it!  :(  I wouldn't have even known if it weren't for Angela.  She's awesome.  If you don't know her, you should go visit.  And she has the best vintage shop on Etsy.

You know what's hard to say 5 times fast?  "Pocket Pita Baked Daily"  Try it!

We're going to a weiner roast at my mom's tomorrow night, and handing out candy at home on Sunday.  I have to remember to get a ginormous thing of candy.  Last year we had over 100 trick or treaters!  It was awesome!

How many trick or treaters do you usually get?

Every year I do the same thing.  I can't come up with a costume idea, so I decide I'm not going to dress up.  Then, it gets to be a couple days before Halloween, and I decide I can't not dress up!  What fun is that?

So, here I am, I have 4 days to pull something together.  I have two ideas.  One that is fun, comfy and easy (in theory), and one that involves some time and creativity, and may have me feeling way uncomfortable by the end of the day.  I'm shooting for the former.  It will all depend if I can find a key piece.

Ravencrest Cemetery...

Jon and I went for a walk last night on the new trail by our house.  It was a beautiful fall evening, and it was so nice to just walk and talk with my sweetie.  {Just checked "crunch through leaves off my list!}
I'm always amazed at how awesome the trail system is here.  It's so accessable, but hidden at the same time.  Love it. 

We came to a cross street and looked over to see this...

The picture I took certainly doesn't do it justice, but there are some awesome pictures on their site, as well as some tutorials on making some of the props and ideas for Halloween parties.  I highly suggest you check it out!  If you're in the area, they welcome visitors on Halloween night.  You can find directions on their site.  Hopefully we can make it by to see what it's all about. 

Do you, or do any of your neighbors get this into Halloween?  

I like Halloween, but can't see myself ever constructing this many props for it.  I think it's great when people use creativity and artistic talent to share something really fun with their communities, just because they love it. 

Roller Girl!

Hope you all had a spooktacular Halloween!  I know it was days ago, but I have been absolutely swamped at work, and have got a little behind with blogging!  I may be a little scarce around here for a while, but I'll do my best to keep you in the loop. 

Before it is totally old news, I wanted to share my costume.  I'm so lucky to work in an art studio where dressing up is not only allowed, it's encouraged!  This year I couldn't resist the temptation to roller skate around the office, so I was an 80's roller girl.  It was so fun!  {and it gave me an excuse to buy some leg warmers!}  I didn't even fall once!  {don't get me wrong, I came dangerously close to falling many, many times, but I kept it together!}

On Saturday, we stayed in and passed out candy to trick-or-treaters.  It was insane!  Being our first Halloween in the new house, we expected alot of trick-or-treaters, but oh my gosh there were a lot of trick-or-treaters!!!  Our neighbor across the street counted 143!  Isn't that crazy!?

It was such a lovely night out, so we sat on the porch for a while.  Our neighbor from down the street was driving around on his harley with a skeleton mask on...hilarious!  Jon literally jumped up and down and clapped his hands when he saw it.  Priceless!
We had to ration the candy at one per customer, because I could tell early on that I hadn't bought enough.  Next year we'll know!  All the cute little kids in costume made us excited to be parents someday.  We're so glad to live in a neighborhood like this.  We are so blessed.
